Dual Language Classes PS116K

The PS 116K Dual Language Immersion Program is a rigorous academic program that develops high linguistic and academic proficiency in both English and Spanish.  Our students are engaged in a safe learning environment that values multiculturalism.  In our program, all content areas (Literacy, Math, Science, Social Studies, etc.) are taught in English and Spanish in a self-contained setting.  For more information on the dual language program click dual language program .

Special Education Classes

At PS116K we offer ICT classes and self-contained classes.

Our ICT classes have two teachers a special education and a general education teacher.  The teachers work together to implement a diverse range of teaching styles to meet the academic needs of all students.  Our ICT classes are made up of general eduction and special education students who benefit from small student to teacher ratios and small group instruction.

Ou Self-Contained Special Education Program is a small class setting with no more than 12 students for 1 special education certified teacher.  This classroom also has a paraprofessional who provides instructional support under the guidance of the teacher.

Instructional Materials

Wilson Fundations

Wilson Fundations is a systematic and explicit instruction phonics program that provides research-based materials and strategies essential to a comprehensive reading, spelling, and handwriting.  At PS 116K it is used in grade K-2.

Estrellita

Estrellita is the Spanish Phonics reading program used at PS 116K  in grades K-2 to bridge the gap from non-reader to reader in Spanish. It provides children with the decoding skills necessary to “break the code.” Estrellita provides a strong foundation in the primary language. A child only learns to read once these skills transfer to the second language.

Amplified Science

Amplify Science is used in all grades at PS 116K.  The program is in English and Spanish.  It is a highly engaging, phenomena-based program that integrates the latest practices in science teaching and learning, as well as interactive digital tools and hands-on activities, to teach students how to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists and engineers.
